SINGAPORE. 2024, the new variable value stamps

In June 2024 Singapore Post began installing a new computer system in some post offices which enabled the issue of variable value stamps with an indefinite validity. This is particularly interesting from a collecting point of view as it means a new printing variety.

Until now, when a customer went to a counter with a postal item, he/she received a stamp, a variable rate stamp for immediate use, with the date of issue printed on it (images). In the case where the customer requested stamps for use later, he/she was given ‘traditional’ stamps with different face values, or was directed to a SAM postal kiosk (see article).

However, post offices are becoming increasingly short of ‘traditional’ stamps, both in quantity and available face values, and not all users understand the use of – or simply do not want to use – postal kiosks. So (…)
