FRANCE. 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Yutz

Yutz is a commune in the Moselle department in Grand Est in the extreme north-eastern part of France. Because of its position and cultural dualism, the Moselle department, which borders Luxembourg to the north and Germany to the east, has been annexed several times by the German Empire in 1871 and in July 1940 by Nazi Germany. It was heavily bombed by the Americans during the Second World War, from the spring of 1944 until March 1945. Yutz was liberated by American troops on November 13th 1944.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Yutz, the city organized several events and ceremonies between November 6th and 21st 2024. These included a philatelic event organized by the Club Philatélique Hettangeois, in collaboration with l’Union Marcophile and the Yutz postal branch.
