FRANCE. MARCOPHILEX XLVIII in Périgueux

In 2024, the annual international philatelic and postal history exhibition and annual assembly organised by the Union Marcophile was held in Périgueux, in the southwest of France.
As always, an excellent philatelic event, in this case organised in collaboration with the departmental philatelic association, l’Amicale Philatélique de la Dordogne, and its energetic president, Jean-Marie Valdenaire.

The 48th Marcophilex was held over the weekend of October 12th & 13th at the Salle de la Filature de l’Isle, the same venue that hosted the youth philatelic exhibition Timbres Passion 2018 six years ago (see article, published in VARIABLE 51).

You can read articles on the earlier MARCOPHILEX exhibitions from 2012 onwards both on our previous website and in the issues of VARIABLE, and from 2023 on this website

The Marcophilex in Périgueux brought together stamp dealers, philatelic associations and regional produce retailers on some twenty stands. The exhibition consisted of 20 collections spread over 50 frames, all of which were featured in a special edition of ‘Les Feuilles Marcophiles’, the excellent publication of the Union Marcophile.

Imprimerie Philaposte, the security printing company for all French postal and philatelic products, is located in Boulazac-Isle-Manoire, in the “urban unit” of Périgueux. Philaposte installed a rotary press, at the event which throughout the weekend was used for printing demonstrations of vignettes on gummed paper with the Union Marcophile and Marcophilex XLVIII logos; ‘Marianne green’ on Saturday and ‘Marianne red’ on Sunday.

Philaposte has been producing a LISA vignette for all Marcophilex events since 2012. The beautiful 2024 issue and its special postmark were designed by Pierra Bara, Philaposte’s engraver. The LISA is illustrated with an image of the Périgueux Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Front de Périgueux), featuring the bell tower and its unique domes. The composition includes, on the left, a group of peregrine falcons, which have been nesting in the cathedral since 2019, and on the right an old city postmark. Philaposte manufactured 15,000 self-adhesive thermal labels with this design.
