The origins of postal services in Singapore date back to 1819, when the Briton Thomas Stamford Raffles founded the city as a trading post of the British East India Company. While postal services were initially administered by the military authority, as the volume of mail increased the Post Office became an independent department of the British Marine Office in 1858 and was financed by postal revenue.
In 2023 Singapore Post commemorates 165 years of postal services with the release of some philatelic products, including a set of five ‘traditional’ stamps showing the evolution of mail and communications throughout its history, and a special issue for its SAM kiosks.
